Practical guide
How to read aquarium water tests and trends
One reading is rarely enough; a consistent series of measurements is more useful.
Repeatability
Test at a similar time, use the same method and record events that may affect results: water changes, new livestock, feeding changes or fertilisation.
Trend rather than panic
A small difference may reflect test precision. A sustained direction of change and livestock behaviour are more informative.
Response
Avoid changing several parameters at once without a clear reason. Change one factor, record it and observe the result.
Important: Adapt actions to the species, equipment instructions and actual measurements. For signs of illness, consult a veterinarian experienced with aquatic animals.
