Practical guide
How to plan aquarium water changes
Build a repeatable water-change process suited to your own aquarium.
There is no universal percentage
Frequency and volume depend on livestock, feeding, plants, filtration and test trends. Record the actual volume and how the tank responds.
Preparation
Match the temperature of new water, use treatment required by your source water and avoid cleaning every filter component at the same time. Refill gently to avoid disturbing the substrate.
After the change
Record the date, percentage and any unusual observations. A history makes it easier to judge whether the chosen routine maintains stable conditions.
Important: Adapt actions to the species, equipment instructions and actual measurements. For signs of illness, consult a veterinarian experienced with aquatic animals.
